{"id":63847,"date":"2016-02-09T12:51:05","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T17:51:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/?p=63847"},"modified":"2020-09-21T13:34:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-21T17:34:00","slug":"amazon-is-making-a-big-play-to-surpass-fedex-and-ups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/amazon-is-making-a-big-play-to-surpass-fedex-and-ups\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon is making a big play to surpass Fedex and UPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-63848 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Amazon-delivery-company.jpg\" alt=\"Amazon delivery company\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1031\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Amazon-delivery-company.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Amazon-delivery-company-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Amazon-delivery-company-768x396.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Amazon-delivery-company-600x309.jpg 600w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 2000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 2000\/1031;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Leaked documents from Amazon show that the company is about to make a big play at surpassing Fedex and UPS as America&#8217;s largest shipping company.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts have known for a while that Amazon has big plans for its\u00a0global shipping and logistics business but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-02-09\/amazon-is-building-global-delivery-business-to-take-on-alibaba-ikfhpyes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leaked documents discovered by Bloomberg&#8217;s Spencer Soper<\/a>, show plans on a more grand scale.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Bloomberg unearthed internal documents from 2013 that laid out Amazon&#8217;s plan to build a global delivery network that will compete directly with its biggest shipping partners.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon is calling the project, Dragon Boat, and it is meant to create a &#8220;Global Supply Chain by Amazon.&#8221; The project could be fully launched before the end of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>According to leaked documents, Dragon Boat is touting a \u201crevolutionary system that will automate the entire international supply chain and eliminate much of the legacy waste associated with document handling and freight booking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cSellers will no longer book with DHL, UPS or Fedex but will book directly with Amazon,\u201d the report writes, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It was recently reported that Amazon has acquired a group of delivery truck trailers, freight ships, and delivery flights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">During its most recent 10-K filing Amazon for the first time referred to itself as a transportation service provider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Amazon CFO\u00a0Brian Olsavsky\u00a0has said rumors of a full-fledged logistics business are not true.
