Just like people, most corporations tend to swing one way or another on the political scale. This is due to several factors, from the CEO’s political affiliation to that of its stock holders. It also depends on the people who heavily endorse the product.<\/p>\n

The business world has its own politics game to play and that sometimes includes the influence of Republicans and Democrats as well. It can be easy to figure out the political allegiance of some companies, such as Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby, but others, like Wendy’s and Applebee’s can be more difficult to ascertain.<\/p>\n

Knowing a company’s political affiliation can be important if you tend to spend along party lines. There’s no telling exactly where the money will go, especially for bigger corporations who lobby for or against political issues and politicians.<\/p>\n

The following list shows 20 corporations with Republican<\/strong> ties you may not have known about.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

#20 – Taco Bell<\/h2>\n

\"Taco<\/p>\n

You may not know that your 79 cent tacos and delicious cheesy gordita crunches are made by a company that supports the Republican party. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, 87 percent of donations by Taco Bell’s parent company Yum! Brands’s PAC have gone to Republicans this election cycle. Depending on your political leanings, this may be reason to either avoid or head toward the nearest Taco Bell.<\/p>\n

#19 – Wendy’s<\/h2>\n

Wendy’s is another fast food chain who contributes money to the Republican party. In fact, this restaurant is one of the top contributors in all of the food industry. In 2015, Wendy’s donated $230,000, 91 percent of which went to Republicans.<\/p>\n

#18 – Angel Soft<\/h2>\n

\"Angel<\/p>\n

Along with supplying millions of bathrooms across America, this company also supplies groups like the National Rifle Association, Americans of Tax Reform, the Right to Live Committee, and Faith and Freedom Coalition. This is because Angel Soft is run by Koch Industries headed by Charles and David Koch. These two shared plans to funnel about $400 million in donations to these conservative groups.<\/p>\n

#17 – Dell<\/h2>\n

This tech company doesn’t follow in the footsteps of Apple or social media organization Facebook.\u00a0Instead, 74 percent of the $217,000 Dell spent in the 2004 election cycle went to Republicans. About three-quarters of the money donated by the Round Rock, Texas company came from individual employees.<\/p>\n

#16 – Wonder Bread<\/h2>\n

Wonder Bread’s parent company Flowers Foods is even more right wing than the Koch brothers. The company has given almost 100 percent of its political contributions to GOP candidates from 1979.<\/p>\n

#15 – White Castle<\/h2>\n

\"White<\/p>\n

Despite its reputation for the best stoner munchies, White Castle is yet another burger joint with ties to the Republican Party. While their donations aren’t as high as others, the company has still given $25,000 to the Congressional Leadership Fund super PAC, which is linked to House Speaker John Boehner.<\/p>\n

#14 – Waffle House<\/h2>\n

For all its tasty breakfast food, Democrats may want to avoid Waffle House the next time they are in the Midwest. The breakfast joint has donated $100,000 to the American Crossroads, a Karl Rove super PAC. Think Progress adds that CEO Jim Rogers Jr. is a longtime Republican supporter. Because of this, the company’s political action committee only gives money to Republicans.<\/p>\n

#13 – Applebee’s<\/h2>\n

Applebee’s is home to delicious appetizers, beer, and burgers. However, this is another restaurant Democrats may want to avoid in the future. The Democratic Underground reports that Applebee’s leans to the right 91 percent of the time.<\/p>\n

#12 – Outback Steakhouse<\/h2>\n

\"Outback<\/p>\n

While it may boast a spokesperson with an Australian accent, Outback Steakhouse isn’t afraid to involve itself in American politics. Republican candidates have received\u00a090 percent of the steakhouse’s political contributions.<\/p>\n

#11 – The Home Depot<\/h2>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

The Home Depot contributed more than $1.7 million towards PACs in 2014. Of that money, 73 percent went toward Republican candidates. Home Depot founder Bernard Marcus had a lot to do with this statistic. He once went on record saying that any retailers not donating money to Republican senators and other right wing politicians should be shot and “thrown out of their goddamn jobs.”<\/p>\n

#10 – Best Buy<\/h2>\n

Best Buy publicly donated $100,000 to MN Forward, an organization that only backs candidates who oppose gay marriage. To qualify for their funding, the candidates must also be Republican. After donating the money, Best Buy stated that the donation “is based solely on the need to help elect candidates who will make jobs and economic issues a top priority this election.”<\/p>\n

#9 – Domino’s<\/h2>\n

Tom Mohaghan, the founder of Domino’s Pizza, is a staunch supporter of anti-choice groups, including Right to Life, Operation Rescue, and the Committee to End State-Funded Abortion in Michigan. As a devout Catholic, Monaghan also founded Ave Maria University.<\/p>\n

Along with Monaghan, company chairman David Brandon served as finance co-chair for Mitt Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n

#8 – Chick-fil-A<\/h2>\n

\"Chick-fil-A\"<\/p>\n

It’s not surprising to see Chick-fil-A on this list. The fast food chain is closed on Sundays and was the subject of protests when it came to light that the chain president was anti-gay. When asked about the company’s support of anti-gay organizations, chain president Dan Cathy stated that he was “guilty as charged.” He added, “We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit.”<\/p>\n

#7 – Urban Outfitters<\/h2>\n

\"Urban<\/p>\n

For all of its witty and hippie-like apparel, Urban Outfitters actually has Republican ties. President and CEO Richard Hayne is an avid Republican and strong supporter of Rick Santorum. He is also actively against gay marriage and abortion and pulled a pro-gay shirt from the company’s racks in 2008.<\/p>\n

#6 – Red Lobster<\/h2>\n

This seafood joint is another restaurant that leans drastically to the right. In the 2012 election season, at least 67 percent of the company’s PAC donations went to Republicans. However, Company Chairman and CEO Clarence Otis made sure to contribute to both parties. According to BuyBlue.org, Red Lobster’s political donations generally swing to the right 91 percent of the time.<\/p>\n

#5 – Carl’s Jr.<\/h2>\n

While the company may not be as strict about it now, founder Carl Karcher was vocally and-abortion and anti-gay for decades before his death. Gay rights groups even called his hamburgers “bigot burgers” after the founder supported a 1978 proposition that would have allowed school boards to fire teachers who were gay or LGBT supporters.<\/p>\n

#4 – Target<\/h2>\n

This company claims to be bipartisan and even came under scrutiny by Republicans when it stopped labeling toys for either boys or girls. Still, Target made several donations in 2010 to a Republican party member’s campaign tour. Those donations totaled more than $150,000.<\/p>\n

#3 – AT&T<\/h2>\n

AT&T appears to have a love affair with John Boehner and the Republican candidate. The company has put their money behind almost every Republican candidate since 1996. During that time, they have donated close to $2.7 million toward Federal elections. Sixty-six percent of that money was geared toward the GOP.<\/p>\n

#2 – Coachella<\/h2>\n

This popular music festival may appear liberal in nature, but the people who run Coachella’s parent company are anything but. Anschutz Corporation, which is run by Philip Anschutz, donates mostly to Republicans. Specifically, the company founder made a $50,000 donation to\u00a0the Congressional Leadership Fund super PAC, which is linked to John Boehner.<\/p>\n

#1 – Pizza Hut<\/h2>\n

Pizza Hut is yet another staple for stoners looking to end their junk food cravings. However, they may want to think twice next time after hearing the facts. Pizza Hut Franchises Assoc., is the #11 contributor to the Republican party in the food industry.
